  1. Edinburgh, however Glasgow is larger. The Scottish Parliment is located in Edinburgh.

  2. As everybody knows the capital of Scotland is "S"!  If you mean the city however it is Edinburgh.

Valentine....Actually Edinburgh existed long before the Angles (settlement in the area is well over 2000 years old).  The Fortress of Dyn Eidyn was actually one of the strongholds of the Gododdin Tribe.  They might have occupied it for a wee while, but as we all know they got their butts kicked in the end.  Tough, but that's the way the cookie crumbles as they say!

    :)

  3. It's Edinburgh. But it wasn't always so...

In the olde days Edinburgh was even part of England for a while. Founded as a fortress town by Edwin of Northumbria in 626, Edinburgh was captured for Scotland by Malcolm II ('Malcolm Canmore') in 1018. Although Dunfermline remained the nation's capital, Edinburgh rapidly became its major metropolis. The city was occupied and the Castle sacked by Edward I of England in 1296, but was retakened by the Scots in 1313. Robert the Bruce granted Edinburgh a Royal Charter in 1329, and by the 16th century, it had supplanted Dunfermline as capital of Scotland. Glasgow is the largest city by a large margin, but that has no bearing.

Other towns than Dunfermline also have claims of being 'ancient capitals' - this is because in early medieval times wherever the King was, was deemed to be the Capital!!
