Was a semi-successful small airliner with twin read mounted jet engines build in France.  It was flown by a few U.S. airlines but was superseded by the DC-9 and 737.  282 were built and the last one was retired in 2005.

It was a French commercial passenger aircraft with a low wing that was loaded via a tail ramp. I was in one that crashed (undercarriage collapsed) at Heathrow in the early '70s.

French airliner, the first of the short-to-medium range jet airliners, with an 80 seat capacity and two rear-mounted engines. The first prototype was rolled out in April 1955 and the allegedly last operational one was retired in July 2005

Nothing to do with the Nimrod - that was the Comet.
