The painting is meant to depict the "ideal mother."  The parrot in the corner is actually an old symbol of the Virgin Mary, who is, of course, considered the ideal Catholic mother.  The parrot's presence in the painting thus suggests Hélène in this role.  Furthermore, the positioning of the father, mother, and child is reminiscent of the Holy family.  Hélène appears loving and caring.  She is on her husbands arm and attentive to their child.  The fountain, the sculpture, and the garden symbolize fertility.  The roses are love and beauty.
