What is the cause of the fight going on in Georgia, Russia ?

I have not had time for much news lately, but do catch headlines. Wanting details if possible as to what exactly is going on over there.

Georgia wanted to unify the country and entered South Ossieta. Russia is a strong ally of South Ossieta and stormed into Georgia. Georgia, incredibly unprepared for the amount of force Russia is using, is pressing for a ceasefire.

This question has been asked a lot lately.  I think Russia provoked this war because it feels it's been put into a subordinate role and wants to reassert control over the area it once dominated.
