  1. First of all the Vatican city is NOT in ROME, it's a country all by itself.. so get your **** together.   Ok.  now back to business, Palatine hill.  That's a great place to see old Historic touristy thing.   You can find Velocosni St. and find the place of birth for Motherus Fuckerus.  also known by it's vulgar Latin name ************.

  2. You can easily get around rome using the metro

Otherwise you can walk, some things are quite close together eg colloseum, roman ruins. I think its also very close to the train station.

The vatican (yes its a country, but you don't need a passport) has st peters and the vatican museums (with the sistine chapel)

  3. They are well centralized.    You can walk to all the attractions.  **(To get to Vatican City , the best way is to take the BUS 110.The best way to map the sights you want to see  is to take the BUS 110.  (It's main stop is  in front of Termini Station )

    See below

Then, you can map out the rest of your stay in Rome.   Vatican City  is similar to what  Washington DC  is in the USA. It as well as San Marino are separate from Italy and Rome.

Staying near the train station maybe a good idea.  Here are some hotels that are reasonably price. In the summer, it will be crowded  and the cost may be a bit higher.  Book early.

The area around Termini station is perfectly fine.Keep your money in a money belt out of sight or in your front pocket and walk with purpose and you will have no problems. Always beware of your surroundings. You must be careful in any place in the world.

If you plan to use the station, don't hesitate to stay nearby

Here are a couple of hotels that I can recommend:

    St. Moritz Hotel

    51 Via Nazionale

    Rome 00184 Italy

The Hotel St.Moritz is a 3-star accommodation located in the centre of Rome in a beautiful building dating back to the 19th century

    Breakfast included

Price range 65 Euros to 250 Euros all year around

    Hotel Italia

    Roma, 00184

It is situated in the heart of historic Rome. Near the Spanish Steps, Fountain of Trevi, Termini station and the Colosseum. It located 3 blocks from Termini station. Breakfast included

Price Range 50 Euros to 200 Euros

I personally have stayed at the Hotel St. Moritz and Hotel Italia. I haven't stayed at the Hotel St. Moritz in many years. I like the location of the Hotel Italia and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I have stayed there several times. The hotel is not fancy, but I really enjoyed staying there.

***Some words of advice: Read reviews on the hotels, B&B's etc, where you are thinking of staying.

    Additional information

***The 110 Bus--This is a good way to get an overview of the city, but don't expect a full blown tour...the attractions are highlighted using a prerecorded message in several different languages (they provide headphones). I would only recommend this bus if you're nervous about getting around the city on your own. I would suggest using this tour on the first day you arrive so you can get an overview of the city and try to get your bearings. You can buy the tickets at Termini station. The cost is about 13 euros for a hop on/hop off tour or 8 euors for a non stop tour.

***It is well worth it. I rode the 110 Bus to get around the city when the distances to walk were too far. It is cheaper than a cab/taxi ride. You can get on and off all day.
