  1. Clomid® (clomiphene citrate) is a prescription medication used to treat infertility in women. Due to the way it works, Clomid increases the chances of multiple births, including twins, triplets, or more.

In clinical studies, about 30 percent of women taking Clomid became pregnant. Of these pregnancies, 7.98 percent were multiple births, including:

    Twins -- 6.9 percent

    Triplets -- 0.5 percent

    Quadruplets -- 0.3 percent

    Quintuplets -- 0.1 percent.

Of the twins, there were five times as many fraternal twins as identical twins.

The increased chance of having multiple births with Clomid is due to the ovary-stimulating effects from the medication. It is important to remember that pregnancies with multiple births are more dangerous than single pregnancies. For this reason, it is generally not recommended to take Clomid for the purpose of having twins.

  2. the odds are increased cos clomid stimulates the ovaries to release more eggs.

If a twin pregnancy results they would probably be fraternal.

  3. I have that same question!

  4. In order to have twins one of two things must happen:

    1.  You release more than one egg and each egg that is released is

fertilized by seperate sperm.  That's fraternal twins.

    2.  One egg is released and fertilized by the sperm and then splits.

         That is identical twins.

Whether or not Clomid will "better the chances", I don't know.
