  1. Grotesque.. otherwise mediocre.


  2. Other than what has already been said (arabesque) there is also the idea of "fear of open space."  This is why Islamic Art appears so busy.  All open space is filled with intricate design.

  3. No drawings of human body -partially and entirely- because it's banned in Islam to sculpture animals and humans. And I think complication is a prominent character too.

  4. Because Islam did not allow artists to represent any human/animal form in their work, it was the reason why their imagination was extended to the utmost limits and they varied the floral and geometric patterns to infinity. This is known as arabesque and is the very essence of Islamic religious art.

    And certainly absence of music (other than religious chanting) for ex. Rumi --> sofi music etc. which is still not allowed in hard line Muslim countries.
