I have Carefirst Bluechoice, and it is VERY expensive. I don't think I can afford their insurance anymore.

Would Aetna be better? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

  1. With health insurance you get what you pay for so there is no company that has the cheapest, best, and most widely accepted. You must decide what to give up. Not all insurance companies write policies in all states. Also, most companies can have a basic budget plan that has limited benefits as well as a more expensive comprehensive plan.

Company A may be best if you're 25 while company B would be better if you're 55. Company C may be better if you have kids. Company D may be better if you have minor pre-existing conditions while company E is best for major pre-existing conditions.

Your best bet would be to contact a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget, can explain the benefits and exclusions of all the plans, and they don't charge any extra for the service.

  2. BlueCross BlueSheild

  3. There is really no such thing as one best health insurance company because everyone is different and companies vary from state to state.

Generally speaking though, you will always want to choose a well known large company like United Healthcare, Blue Cross, Aetna, Humana, etc.

Be sure that you shop around and compare quotes from multiple companies at least once every 6 months. Here is some more information on finding low cost health insurance:
