my recommendation would be to go to small towns. places like puerto vallarta or Mexico City are expensive. go to places where tourists usually do not go. Visit the state of Michoacan. you will find a lot of beautiful places from national parks, lakes, art, and big cities if you wish. keep in mind that people are usually nicer in small towns than in the big cities. food is great and cheap!! if you want to have some real, authentic Mexican food, Michoacan is the place.
