What is the cheapest bank to use in Australia?

I'm an American who just moved here and would like to set up an Australian bank account. Which bank will give me the best deal as a retail customer?

I can't really say what is the cheapest bank - but it really depends on how much $ you have really as weird as it sounds.  They love your money in the bank, if you have lots of it they'll pay you interest and not much bank fees.  

If you are a student, there is heaps of options with NO bank fees at all.  Investments etc, so much to consider.
