My family and I will possibly be moving to Korea. While we will have a furnished apartment in Korea, there is still a bunch of still we will need to ship to our new place. Mailing through UPS, and USPS is VERY expensive. Is there another way to get 5 to 10 boxes of personal belongings from the United States to Korea? Any idea of the cost and how long it takes?

  1. You can ship by boat through the USPS.  It takes 6 to 8 weeks and the boxes get roughed up so you can't ship anything that might break.  The prices are much lower than air mail but will vary depending on size, weight and location that you're shipping from.

  2. I would take them to USPS and ship them by boat (slow boat to China so to speak). Generally it takes up to 2 months to get to Korea, but I have had things arrive quicker then that. It depends when and where they are mailed in the US and where they are coming to in Korea (ie if they are going to Seoul or Busan, they will likely arrive quicker). Even then you are going to pay an arm and a leg (figuratively speaking)
