I live in Manchester in a ground floor flat and only have about £5,000 worth of contents to insure. I want to pay monthly but can't find anything cheaper than £16.25 per month. Any ideas?

  2. Are you sure you've only got £5000 worth of contents?  That seems very low. You'd be surprised how much everything adds up.  I'm only saying this because a lot of people under-estimate the value of their contents.

I don't think £16.25 a month is that bad for a ground floor flat in central Manchester.  But if you really have got only £5000 of contents, it's probably best to go to an insurance broker, as they would be able to find a specialist policy.  Most standard policies provide about £50,000 worth of cover, so you would be over-insured if you bought a standard policy.

  3. If your property is rented from the local autority i would say go 2 your housing office  for about £5 per month and get cover.

  4. go on gocompare.com or confused.com. you might find it cheaper on there!

  5. moneysupermarket.com is a good screen scraper - will give you the best price.  mine is with the post office, they are very reasonable
