$370 return on Emirates seems to be the cheapest today here.

It also includes all the add ons that throw you when you think you have a cheap flight.

There are several hostels and backpackers in central Auckland.

Not sure about Auckland, but Jetstar will get you to Christchurch from Brisbane for under $300.
