  3. Ummm what?  Spain borders Portugal.  Depending on where you are, you can practically WALK over the border.  To get from Spain to Italy, you have to either fly or take a train or bus or car across the southern coast of France.

From Barcelona to Rome is an overnight train.  Probably costs more than flying.

But travel to Portugal is bound to be  less.

  4. Barcelona to Genoa or Civitavecchia by ferry. See link

  5. Your best chice is to compare cheap air-tickets and pick the one that suits you best.

You'll often find certain weekdays and time of the day where you can spot the best deal.

Check out this page where I have found good bargains:

  6. the cheapest way is not to travel at all.

  7. The THUMB!

  8. Flights are cheapest if you can be flexible with dates and book in advance.  I have flights booked from Valencia to Rome for 30 euros return.

You can get cheap flights to Portugal too, flying with Vueling from Madrid to Lisbon seems to be the cheapest flight.  Then once you are in Portugal there are buses everywhere which are cheap.

I personally wouldn't bother with any other form of transport.  People often seem to believe that train and bus travel is cheaper when this is not always the case.

I would prefer to pay 50 euros for a 1.5 hour flight than pay 40 euros for a 12 hour bus ride.  I would rather save a day or night's travelling than a small amount of money.

Try this website for the cheapest deals:

  9. Ryanair from valencia, alicante or girona

  10. Walking and living on handouts from the public. It would be a tad faster by bicycle.
