What is the cheapest phone to use in Israel?

I'm a student going for a year to study in Israel and I'm looking for cheap cell phone rates (i guess a cell phone to rent long term).

in my opinion your two best options are this:

if you have a quad band ATT cell phone with a sim card ask the company for the unlocking code and bring it to israel or just buy an unlocked quad band cell phone before you move to israel since you are only going for a year (most plans are 2-3 years i think)

then in israel in the airport or in the malls just buy a prepaid sim card and pop it in your phone. incoming calls are free and youre only charged for outgoing calls. you can also refill them as needed.

There are only 4 mobile companies in Israel, and you can simply go one of the large malls. All companies have representatives in here and you can check for the best package on the spot.

You can also bring your own cell phone (it is also probably cheaper to buy one abroad). In this case, you will have to buy a SIM card in Israel, which cost a couple of hundreds of NIS (50-60$).
