Have you tried Hotwire for cheap airline tickets to Italy?

Don't worry about when you go - just go and have fun...  I've been in December with freezing cold and no tourists, and August with heat, humidity and lots of tourists...  I would pick May and October, off season but good weather!

Be sure to have some whipped cream in an ice cream cone at one of the vendor stands!  Oh - and if you see a dish of hard candy on a store counter at the register, and notice you didn't get your change - have a candy!  That's your change!
