There's no magic cheapest site.  You just have to play around with a bunch of them, and read the fine print about fees.

It's good to check a site that queries other sites, such as www.kayak.com

I usually find the flight I want on Orbitz, then go buy it from the airline's site, to avoid paying Orbitz' fee.

Also check www.southwest.com since their flights aren't listed on any other websites.

Listen ALL cheap flights come out on Tuesday at Midnight.  I usually check for hotwire.com, but check for southwest.  Tuesday at midnight.  Check it out

Alaska Airlines is really cheap right now. If you book the day before your flight at any airline rates are way cheaper. I booked the day before at http://alaskaair.com/ and got a ticket for $180 round trip! (Washington to California)
