After a year in Australia (Brisbane) I am leaving for my homecountry Austria and I have way too much luggage, about 60 kilo too much. Is there a good shipping company in Brisbane that isn't too expensive and how long would it take until I receive my stuff? Is there any better way how to send my luggage over? I have absolutely no clue what to do.:(

  1. if ring the local cargo companys  you can send you stuff airport to airport is the cheapest by far it shouldnt take more than a week to arrive

  2. 1300 655 110 is phone number for luggageline. Their website is www.luggageline.com.au

They specialise in shipping excess baggage and claim to be able to do it economically (shared container usage etc.) according to their website.

The only problem I have faced when trying to ship excess baggage using shipping companies, as opposed to just posting, is that they seem to charge custom clearance fees etc.

Australia Post has a maximum parcel size of 20KG which to Austria costs approx $168 (Seamail) plus any insurance. You would need to check if you will be charged any duty on your own property when you ship it home.  Maybe you could have a drastic cut down on what you consider really necessary or send in 3 parcels. At least posting avoids custom clearance fees and possibly duty on your own goods. Insurance is around $8 plus around $2 per $100 declared value. The goods also arrive at your door without extra courier costs often imposed by shipping agents.

Fedex standard rates for 60kg is around $1000 according to their website but this would be quick but their could be extra fees as well. You could find their number and check if they have a cheaper sea shipping service.

I have usually found it easier to post, having posted suitcases from Prague to USA and boxes and suitcases of excess luggage from USA to Australia in the past.

  3. If you ship by sea its really cheap but takes months.  Contact fed X or any of the other large shipping agencys and ask about cheap shipping.  the local mailing service might be able to help as well. Also, call your airline and explain your problem.  The best solution would be to have your baggage come along on the flight.  They sometimes make allowances for interational passengers that are relocating.
