  1. The cheapest way or the cheapest flights?  I think it is cheapest to fly if you can get good fares.  You fly Paris to Geneva, and make your way by ground to Grenoble.  I usually rent a car at that point.

Here is a link that compares flights.  You will see Easyjet is usually cheapest.  Nb, Easyjet has open seating, so when they call the flight, get in line fast.  Or even get in line before they call the flight, so you will get to sit together.

Farecompare.com is another way to compare flights, the link:

It usually boils down to Easyjet, so will give you their direct link:

At these prices, it's cheaper to fly than to take the train.

After getting to my destination, I rent a car so I don't have to fiddle around with ground transportation.  It's so easy and the roads are good.  I used National Car Rentals last year, they had the best prices.

If you want to take the train, sorry I am not of any help to you.  I gave that up a long time ago.

  2. I would check Ryan Air and Easy Jet. I flew from Paris to Geneva and then took a train to my destination, and it was pretty cheap. You might even be able to catch a last minute deal on the airfare.

  3. I think there's a site called www.ryanair.com

    Check it out.

  4. If you had booked earlier the train would have cost you 22 € per person from central Paris. But since you are leaving soon, the cost for the 12:58 train from Charles de Gaulle airport is 67.80 € per person, the next train at 1:54 is 62.80 €. From central Paris most trains that day are 54 € per person. (Add approx. 10 € per person from Orly airport to Paris and 14.60 from Beauvais airport to your train station in Paris).

Renting a car will be a minimum of 150 € for a smaller car + another 120 € for toll and gas.

So they both cost about the same: 270 € for the 4 of you. The train is faster, safer, less stressful and pollutes less.

The only cheaper solution is to put an ad on a car pooling website and find someone with a large car and offer to cover the whole traveling cost or a fixed sum of 120 € (since most of the weight will come from you and they will need a good incentive to accept to travel with a whole family!)
