My 16 yr old son and I will arrive in Lima on April 5th. We plan to stay in Aguas Calientes to see Machu Picchu for 3 days. Are there more places to see in Cuzco or Lima? We have 3 extra days before heading back to the US. HELP!!!!

  2. try this: www.costabrazil.com

I always use them when I to go Brazil. They have other good prices for other countries as well.

  3. Tickets wont be much cheaper in Peru

Check our the Cusco city tours and the sacred valley tours

    we used www.sunriseperu.com

also go to the market in cusco up by "san francisco" area and the inca museum just off the main square.

  4. It is not much difference to book in the US or in Peru. But there are some smaller airlines that make the trip that are more difficult to book from the US. However, the planes are usually very busy, and it is better to book early. You can get a bus but it takes 18 hours.

There is lots to see in both Lima, which is a huge city, and in Cusco, which is smaller and charming. When you fly from Lima to Cusco -- go early in the morning.  Later in the day it gets turbulent in the mountain air. Also, it is not a bad idea to spend a couple of days in Cusco so you get used to the altitude before you do your major sight-seeing. There is not much in Aguas Calientes itself, but the "Sacred Valley from AC to Cusco is full of interesting Inca ruins and other sights.

    Have a great trip.

  6. Wait until you get there and ask around to the tourist centers and they will tell you what is around to see.

  8. Chances are that prices will be very similar in the US or Peru, unless you're traveling via LAN, in which case it is likely that if you buy the ticket all the way from the US to Cuzco you might get it cheaper.  April is not the highest season (nowadays it seems it's always high season for Cuzco, but the real crowd shows up between July and October) so tickets to Cuzco should be available.

What should concern you are the train tickets from Cuzco or Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu. I'm enclosing the web page of the train operator were you can decide what train to take and make reservations.

My advice, Take an easy day in Cuzco to get used to the altitude and to see the Temple of the Sun (Coricancha), the Inca Fortress that guarded the city (Sacsayhuaman) and to visit the San Blas neighborhood and church. then go to Aguas Calientes and visit Machu Picchu.

In Lima, the main square is nice, but to hang out and take in the scenery, having lunch at any restaurant in "Larco Mar" (Close to the Marriott Hotel) is a treat.

A visit to Pachacamac (The pre-inca temple close to Lima) could be in order if you have extra time and lunch at the Restaurant "La Huaca" (righ in fromt of an archeological excavation in the middle of Lima) could be nice.

    Hope this helps.
