The cheapest way to get cheap flights is to become a travel agent yourself.  By doing this, you can earn commission on all your personal travel and vacations. you can "name your price" on Priceline.com. If they accept it, you bought it right there. I would find your lowest fare on orbitz or travelocity, then take about 25% off and see if they accept it on Priceline. If they dont accept it, you dont lose a penny. In general, travel mid-week for lowest fares

It is cheapest to make resevations on line than by phone (airlines told me so).

I've tried hotels.com, travelocity.com, hotwire.com and expedia.com.  Priceline.com is good cheap flying if you don't mind flying from St. Louis to Denver to end up in Chicago.

While all these sites are good for comparison pricing and checking for availability, Expedia.com was the cheapest as far as those kinds of sites go.

Your best bet is to go directly to the website of the car rental, airline, or hotel.  If you make your reservations with any of the above websites rather than directly with whomever, it's a little more difficult to get the issue resolved. If you make your reservation directly with the hotel, car rental or airline, you will get better customer service results.

Also, rates tend to go down if you wait until after midnight...traveling during the week (M-Th) is also cheaper.

Book as far in advance as possible. This is the best way to get the cheapest flights, no matter where you are going.

Uhm...Make your reservations early. If you make them the same month, they're going to get expensive, and its going to get expensive fast.
