Is this area safe for three girls to walk around on vacation?

The rail, or LRT (Light Rail Transit) as it is called,  If part of the bus system.  Definitely taking the bus is cheaper.  You would take the 57 bus to the rail going downtown which runs on 7th Avenue SW.  You would need to go 3 blocks south to get to 4th Avenue SW.  Depending where on 4th you need to be will determine which stop you need to get offf of from the rail.  The fare is $2.50 per person.

A cab will cost you around $40.

As in any large city, be careful at night and stay in well lit areas.  Try and avoid the SE side by 4th Avenue.  Be careful using the rails at night.  You don't need to be afraid but exercise caution.
