Question:

What is the cheapest way to send a large package to Australia

I'm looking to send a 25 lb. package to Australia from the United States (east coast). While USPS has removed the cheap and popular Sea-Mail/Surface-Mail option, they still provide the best rate (around $130). Most other major carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) are up around $475. Has anyone experienced a shipping company that will ship for less? Have you had good luck with a shipping company that does sea-mail travel? Is there a cheaper luggage-shipping site that I'm not finding that has decent rates for sea-mail? Serious and informative answers only, please. Thank everyone!

  1. If you lived near the port you could drop it off at the "shipping line's" office and save 1/4 of the USPS fee.  I don't know if that has been tightened since Homeland Security.   Are you close? /
