  1. The cheapest way to ship things internationally is by sea freight. Here is how you can get the best deal. Look for the shipping schedule out of Keelung. This will have the ships names and  destinations. Contact about five shipping companies for price quotes. Wait until about five days before the ship leaves before you finalize the deal. That will get you the cheapest price. My wife works for a shipping company every day other companies will call her offering very cheap rates because they have a half full container. This applies to airfreight also. The last time I left Kuwait to come back to Taiwan I did this and I shipped Two hundred and fifty pounds for about 50 US dollars by sea freight.

    Regards,

  2. The best thing to do is to decide, for each thing you want to take back:

    1.  Does it have sentimental or nostalgic or other non-monetary value?

    If not:

2:  Is the replacement cost back home less than the shipping cost?

In other words, sell or get rid of everything you can.  Keep in mind, though, that used goods do not get fetch a good price--especially when your prime market is newly-arrived foreigners who haven't been paid yet and need to establish a household.

Shipping stuff home is VERY expensive.   The least expensive, and therefore the slowest, is ocean freight.  Even at that, we sold our car because it would have cost USD 3500 to ship it from Keelung to Vancouver.  On top of that, we would have had to drain the oil and gas (therefore looking a tow charge in Canada), and the shipping cost did not include customs clearance charges and all that.  There would have been no duty on it, but the new rule is that an employee from the shipping company must accompany you to the customs office, and they charge CAD200 for that service.

We sent what we could through the post office--they said 70 days but it only took 30, and for the rest we just paid the excess baggage charge on the airline.

To make a short story long, if it's all small stuff then mail wht you can and  take the rest as excess baggage.

  3. Throw it away if it is garbage.
