  1. We are traveling back to Vietnam in June.  Have been researching tickets to SaiGon and then to Hue, just north of DaNang.  Probley fly Korean from Chicago to SaiGon, for the price they are the most comfortable and have better service. Once in SaiGon we will meet family and all take the train to Hue, which goes through DaNang to arrive there.  Bus is cheaper; but sure not as comfortable.  Have Fun.  Cheers C

  2. Check on United airline. Buy ticket at the Asian Travel agency. Sometime you can get a good deal. But you know in summer you always pay more.

  3. From Chicago, Delta should give you a really good rate.  They do bounce you through Korea though.  Check with one of the RTW groups and you might stumble on a cheap fare.  Also Vietnam airlines out of LA has some great deals.

The cheapest round trip I am seeing is around $1250.  Rates change on a daily basis but you will get a better rate if you book at least 21 days in advance.  good luck

  4. You kind of need to be interested in the whole area, too, and then spend more than just a trip to VN, also the longer you spend on thr road, the cheaper.... Actually, if you really want to do it cheap, there are Container ships, Transport Planes, etc. too you can hitch on. Let me know if you did it or not.

How about a cheap flight to London, then board the Trans- Siberian Express, then hitch through China... etc.

  5. Asiana, KOREAN AIR usually are CHEAPER.  Most will fly out from LAX though.

  6. As a serving member of the Armed Forces you can apply for free seating on any scheduled military aircraft if on leave.  US

Navy also has allowed civilian dependants board some ships

that are so fitted for such transport.  Personal vehicles are

even sometimes transported.   Hope you have time to visit

the Marble Mountains; interesting underground complex there.

  7. Walk West, then swim Southwest

  8. Go to Kayak.com. Also, if you can find a cheap one way to LA which I have done many times with a small carrier, book a flight to Asia from there. Try with China Air or United to Japan then on to HA Noi. Train or bus it down the coast. There is no magic cheap flight. You will have to shop and compare. Go from the west coast or from chicago to Tokyo, then to Bangkok. From there you can find cheaper ways to Vietnam locally. It is easier and cheaper to go to BKK or Hong Kong first than straight to Ha  Noi usually. No one has a perfect answer. Just get creative and get a price range.
