The train.

There are multiple trains every day. The regular fare from Marseille to Cannes is about 27 euros and the trip takes about 2 hours.

The Cannes to Nice trip costs about 5 or 6 euros and takes a bit over half an hour.

There are also buses run by Rapides Cote d'Azur (RCA) from Nice to Cannes (Line 200). Their website is here: http://www.rca.tm.fr/

Bus is the cheapest, but not the fastest. Here is the link for the only train company in France. Check the prices, there may not be too much difference between bus and train.

The train is the best. There are many trains/day and you can admire the places during the travel. From Marseille to Cannes it's about 2 hours and from Cannes to Nice about a half hour. And the tickets are cheap enough (you have an answer about this point). So, Bon voyage !
