I want the chemical equation by which 5 thio 2-nitrobenzoic acid (TNB) is produced from the reaction between 5,5'dithiobis 2-nitrobenzoic acid (DTNB) and 2-mercaptoethanol

  2. It basically is a SN2 displacement / substitution reaction in which 2-mercaptoethanol (HO-CH2CH2-SH) nucleophilically displaces 1 eq of product (TNB) by SN2 attack at the dithio bond (R-S-S-R) of the bis starting material (DTNB).

    Here's a link that will show you the mecanism. Please note that the like describes an enzymatic process but the reaction mechanism will be the same (look for the R-SH displacement reaction)...
