  1. There is a direct train from Brussels to Amsterdam, it leaves once an hour from Midi, Central or Nord. It's the fastest and not extremely expensive, I think it costs like 40 euro's.

  2. From Brussel-Zuid to Amsterdam Centraal by train takes just under 3 hours and a one-way 2nd class ticket leaving this weekend will cost €34.80 http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/index.php

From Brussel-Nord by Eurolines (coach) to Amsterdam takes 3.5 hours and a one-way 2nd class ticket leaving tomorrow will cost €19.00 https://webapp.eurolines.be/Eurolines/ss...

Therefore coach (bus) is the cheaper option and depending on which one you catch, does not take much more time than the train

... Oh and yes I live close to Amsterdam so also know the route to Brussels well, and have travelled it many times.  I personally choose to go by the train as it is a nicer journey than by coach, and more convenient for me to/from the applicable stations, but if cost is your only preference then coach it is!

  3. use the bus it will take a whilse but its the cheapes, i know i used to live there!
