What is the christian view on masterbation?

The Bible does not discuss masturbation at all.  However, the goal of the Christian life is to be pure in thought and deed.  And usually masterbation is accompanied by fantasy, which is definitely not pure in thought.

It's not the act as much as it is what you think about when you do it.  Is it your wife and your wife only?

If you keep from filling your mind with unprure thoughts you will not need to m********e.The christian is to keep his mind clean and pure and be ready to have the holy spirit work in them. Same as drunkedness.

It is a way to practice selfish sexual satisfaction.Usually movies, pictures, or one's imagination is used for stimulation. Later in life, the unlucky spouse is found to not live up to one's imagination and divorce results. I can not think of a way to practice "loving" another person while masturbating. It is the main reason people confuse s*x with love. In fact, after divorce, one usually finds nobody thats lives up to their imagination and ends up just settling for someone, again an unlucky person, that they don't love.

The Christian view is that it's a sin. In reality, it feels good and helps prevent prostate problems.

I'm a christian and I don't believe it's a sin.  I've never heard that it was.  I do wish people would stop putting beliefs on us that we don't all have.  The only place I can think of about possible masturbation is in the Old Testament when Onan "spilled his seed upon the ground" (because he didn't want to impregnate a woman).  I guess because he didn't really do it for pleasure it wouldn't be called masturbation... or would it??

Some see it as a form of sensual pleasure (i.e. "the flesh" if you will) and consider it sinful.
