Question:

What is the clicking noise from my front left tyre?

With the car moving i have got a constant clicking noise from the left front tyre. Its not just on turning so i dont think its cv joint. Its there on accelerate, turn, slowing, coasting etc. The only time it isnt there is when i break whilst moving, or when the car stands still. It sounds almost like a pen would sound caught in a soft fan. Its a ticking, as if something is hitting the wheel going round. Ive looked for stones etc but cant see anything. Also, if i break hard the car veers left. Otherwise it doesnt affect the cars perfomance. Anyone any ideas?

  1. Stone in the tyre? seriously though the pulling to the right is a bit worrying have you checked you discs and pads?

  2. Sounds like your rotor might be out of parallel. That is to say that some parts are thicker than the others. This will give you a ticking noise every time the pads hit the thick part, and the braking will tend to be harsh on that side. Have someone check the thickness at various points around with a micrometer. If that's it, you could have it turned if it's still thick enough, or get a new one, and make sure a torque wrench is used to tighten the lug nuts in the appropriate pattern in the future. Also, make sure your pads are held in securely with the proper shims.

  3. your front axle or (cv joint) is bad. time to replace it. most mechanics you know can replace them. look around for the best deal on them at an auto parts store
