  1. If you want to go to a really nice sandy beach i suggest you go to  place called shoebury, its a few minutes drive from southend on sea but its so much nicer, its sandy and the water is clearer and its less packed on a sunny day.

  2. "Bristol, Portsmouth. Almost all are sandy."

    that guy is talking nonsense.!!!!

The nearest beaches are along the south east coast. Just look at  a map. Nearest main beaches are Southend (36 miles), Clacton-on-sea (60 miles) and Brighton (47 miles). Yes there are many small beaches doted around but these are the nearest things to resorts. Distances are from central London.

  3. Bristol, Portsmouth and Southend Sea. Almost all are sandy.

    All the best!/

  4. I agree with Ibrahim ... Shoeburyness is where I used to take my kids when they were young (I live in London), also Thorpe Bay just before Shoeburyness

failing that look at Margate/Ramsgate (and some other places like Herne Bay and Whitstable along that coast), Clacton and the coast up to Walton-on-the-Naze, there's a nice sandy beach at Hastings but it's quite small but enough for younger children, Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey,

  5. Some more choices for you.  Littlehampton, BIG sandy beach there stretching from Goring by Sea to Bognor Regis almost. Camber Sands, famous sandy beach was often used by British Film Companies for desert scenes in low budget films.

Brighton does not have sand at all.
