  1. Billings Bridge Plaza is probably the closest.

  2. Billings Bridge Plaza is about 10 minutes by bus. They have a handful of stores, a grocery store, Zellers, etc. They're one of the smaller malls in the city.

There is also South Keys Shopping Centre which is a 6 minute ride on the the O-Train (light rail transit): There you'll find a Bulk Barn, Blockbuster, a few clothing stores, Wal-Mart, a movie theatre, Loblaws, Staples, Best Buy, Winners, Chapters, Starbucks, Second Cup and a bagel store...oh, and a Dennys (for hangover breakfasts!) South Keys is the most accessible of the malls, and it has everything you'll need for groceries and such (I used it all the time when I lived on campus).

For clothing and such, most people take the 25-30 minute bus ride (#4 Downtown or #7 St. Laruent) to Rideau Centre. There are about 200 stores there, all the popular ones and a few independents, as well as the Byward Market right behind it. The market is also your major pub and club centre (unless you are under 19, in which case it's Hull).

Ottawa is a beautiful city, so don't feel that you need to restrict yourself to the malls and shopping centres that are a closest. There's so much to do, and it's always sad to see students who, after four years in Ottawa, still think that the best part of the city is the Market, or South Keys. If you're living in res, talk to your RA (Upper Year student in charge of your floor) about good places for day trips and such!

Good luck with the move and everything. If you have any other questions about Ottawa, just message me (I've been here for 3 years of my undergrad, and I have no intentions of leaving--except to travel!)
