zebras dont have stripes at birth, they develop them as they age.

they do have stripes when they are born. they just are much more faint than when mature..

they start off (guessing) 80% brown and 20% white..the brown areas shrink and turn black while the white grows till it's about 40-60 black-white

Depends on the type of Zebra.  They are born with stripes.  Some sub-species have black stripes, others a tanner brown color.  Babies that are born without stripes fail to reach adulthood in the wild, they don't camouflage with the herd.
