  1. You need to be login as administrator to be able to format your hard drive in XP.

the command line is.... format C:

if your hard drive is C:

  2. The two answers above me are right. But if you really want to wipe your hard drive because you want to sell your computer and don't want anybody to find any data then download "dban" in the link.Download it on a CD or Floppy, put it on a CD/Floppy and reboot your computer. You might have to change your boot order to CD or Floppy.

BUT all is gone and no program can bring any info back, because he overwrites your hard drive 27 times.

OK it takes time-but it's worth it. After that you will have to reinstall OS and all drivers.

  3. depending on what version of windows you are running a boot disk or install cd can be used. if using a 98, 95 or M.E. use a boot disk and boot to dos and use the format command, or if using 2000, xp or vista use the install cd and choose the format command there
