Question:

What is the common "breaking in" period for a new mattress

I just bought a new Sealy Backsaver and I think I'm really going to like it. My old mattress was only a year and a half old but it was too firm and caused pain that I never had before.

My new mattress can be exchanged within 45 days so I got a good policy. Only slept on it two nights and felt good so far but tiny little back pain this morning.

Does anybody know what a common "adjustment period" for a new mattress generally is?

Thank you!

  1. It takes awhile especially with new mattresses like the Sealy Backsaver to break-in. In the meantime, I would purchase a memory foam mattress topper pad. You can find them at Target and Wal-Mart for super cheap. Before you go out and buy one, you should have a sense of what to look for in a memory foam mattress topper. I found an article that compares memory foam mattress topper pads: http://memoryfoamreviews.com/memory-foam...

  2. The guy above me gave you some good advice. One thing I will add. If your back gets worse and you decide to get another mattress I'd suggest getting a Posturepedic as its coil is a lot better than the bonnell.

  3. it takes on average 30- 50 nights for you to adjust to your new mattress . it will gradually become softer as the foams break in. and feeling a little pain is expected because you are being supported differently then you were on the firm mattress the back saver series uses a bonell coil unit it has been the standard in the industry for the last 80 years. now sealy is using a double offset coil system in their posturepedic series beds.
