What is the common road width?

What is the normal road width? Single lane, double lane and triple lane. Is there a different in width in Asia, Africa, Europe and America? Please Advice.

  1. According to FHWA, 12 feet per lane is the standard width for highways(or Freeways), although it common to see lanes as small as 11 feet.

    On residential roads, I have seen it as wide as 14 feet total!

    In most of Asia and Europe, lanes are 3.3 Meters wide.

    Standards vary from Country to Country.


  2. some states here in America have smaller streets than the other state. Where I live in NJ, each lane is really wide, probably 10 feet. In NY, even on the highway, the lanes are probably 9 to 9.5 feet wide. But they are smaller.

    Not sure about other countries, but I'm guessing the same thing. Check google.

  3. 12 feet per lane is the default standard.......
