What is the composition of metal in UK road signs?

I'm just wondering cos I seen some guy in the paper who got caught nicking them for scrap metal.

  1. Aluminium and quite a lot of them are made - or used to be - by the Royal British Legion Industries (the poppy day people). but apparently these signs are starting to be phased out in favour of plastic ones.


  2. Aluminum.  They are light but durable.  They are probably plated with stainless steel so they don't rust.
