  1. The ratio is the amount of data you have downloaded to the amount of data you have uploaded. Since BT is built on sharing, some clients are configured to perform better if you have a higher sharing ratio.

    To increase the ration, seed the files after you have finished downloading. hypothetically, if everybody's share ratio reaches 0 then bit torrent will be broken because no files will be shared.
