  1. security - take out crop insurance - no matter what size farm you have -- if not insurable by crop insurance - get NAP from your county Farm service office

many a farmer is still in business today because they had crop insurance - when they had a crop failure.

  2. well there are some who are very well of and others who can't afford a square meal a day.  Now most of these farmers move to cities to find alternative jobs so that they can survive.

  3. There is a wide range of answers to your question.  Most farmers probably have their own housing.  Some is very modest, especially if they are just starting out.  My parents were able to build a very nice new home after dairy farming for 35 years, but it isn't fancy.  Some big ranchers have enough money after many years of farming to build a very fancy house.

As for security.  Well....  People will always need to eat, so there will always be a need for farmers, won't there?  But if you are wondering how secure their income is, well, that is another matter.  Last year, the price us dairy farmers received for milk was very low.  It was hard to pay all the bills some months and we had to be careful about what to spend our money on.  This year the price of milk has just about set a record high.  That doesn't mean we have all kinds of money in the bank though.  Fuel prices are at record highs, and electricity is higher, fertilizer is higher (that price goes up every year!), and so we don't get to put much if any into savings.  I wish we could.

Employment.  What are you asking?  If you want to know if farmers are hiring people to work for them, the answer is always yes.  It takes a special kind of person to want to work on a farm though.  It is dirty sometimes.  Hot in summer.  Cold in winter.  But if you like a job where you can see what you did at the end of the day, if you like to work outside, with animals, with plants, with tractors, and if you like the challenge of making things grow, farming can be very rewarding.  Just don't expect to get rich doing it.  Some do, but most don't.

  4. I'm with cherylfarmer on this one.  Something to add though.  Alot of times when farmland is sold off, the house is generally included.  A form of payment for a hired man is often a house on one of the farms.

Security and employment in grain farming is kind of an oxymoron in itself.  Employment depends on entirely how well you produce.  Family farms that have been around longer are at an serious advantage.  Land is their security blanket.  At worst case scenerios they could sell their land and pay off their creditors.  If you cash rent most of your acres and you lose money in consecutive years, most likely you are bankrupt.

Also some farms also do custom farming for other farmers.  So they rely totally on doing mass acres to pay for pricey machinery and profits.

  5. Some farmers are wealthy and others are struggling to make ends meet, as the government make it so hard for them.

  6. good but no accept it due to political reason

  7. We all live like JR of the Dallas series.
