Both shows were produced by Norman Lear, and were spinoffs from other shows of his. "The Jeffersons" was a spinoff of "All in the Family" (they were the Bunker family's neighbors). Here's another connection--"Good Times" was a spinoff of "Maude", who was a character on "All In The Family". Florida, the lead character in "Good Times", was originally Maude's housekeeper. "All In The Family" started all of them.
