if some one ask like this..."what did u hear"a

what would be the answer?

A.i heard a noise

B.i did hear a noise

or both are correct?

What did you hear?

I heard a noise.

(This would be more appropriate as an answer.)

If the question was -

Did you hear (something / a noise)?

I did hear a noise.

(Then this would be more appropriate as an answer.)

A would be the correct answer. Unless you were trying to add emphasis on the "did", and then B would be correct.

In the context of the question 'what did you hear?' then A is correct.

B is grammatically correct but would be used when someone is attempting to convince another person, but wouldn't be prompted by a question, eg

Mother: I've checked outside, there's nothing there, go back to sleep.

Child: (But) I did hear a noise.
