  1. Cultures first, then coags (light blue), then redtops (non-additive tubes).  Tubes with additives come last.  Usually the only thing I'm drawing is lavender top, so I tend to forget what the "right" order is, but you can look at the PP's site, which I'm sure lists them all.  (And the way my medicine intern taught me to remember the order for the basics was Blue + Red = Purple.)


  2. This is the way we do it at my hospital.

  3. wipe with antaseptic, tie off, inject, and... I forget the rest. Something about drinking a beer, or somethin'. I didn't make it all the way through phlebotomy school for some reason.

  4. 1.blood culture

    2.serum (red top)

    3. citrate (blue top)

    4.heparin (green top)

    5.EDTA (purple top)

    6.k-oxalate (gray top)

    7.SST Gel (tiger/yellow top)
