  1. Try the very simple back exercise in the link that is explained by a man who tried for many years to get relief from a bad back.  When people fall asleep they often go through a ritual that helps them relax and it may require many postures and even changes in posture during the night to help blood circulation.  When the back is very sore it may help to nest pillows under the knees while resting on the back.  Also, there are special pillows that provide proper neck support (encasing the pillow within a thin plastic bag inside the pillowcase may also avoid dust that causes breathing problems that result in disturbed sleep).

  2. i would say laying on your back, well when you first go to bed sleep on your back because your internal organs and food ect need to rest.

  3. The absolute correct position is on your side with a pillow between your knees. This keeps your head at a good angle as well as keeping your spine alinged with your body. Try it and I guarantee your back will feel much better. Sleeping on your back is an option but most people don't sleep well in that position.

  4. I don't think there is any special 'posture' when sleeping but as long as your comfortable, not curled up, easy to breathe and relaxed. Make sure you sleep on your pillow properly because when i slip off my back and neck hurts when i wake up.

  5. The one you find. Almost as soon as you fall asleep, you'll move, so there's no sense worrying about it. One of the triggers for movement is the nose: one nostril will get congested, and you'll turn over and perhaps stay there until the other nostril gets congested. This is mediated simply through gravity and completely out of your control. You can't fool Mother Nature.
