  1. .

Hi  Cassie is spot on, also  you do not slow down while on the main carriageway, and to all you  selfish idiots,it is wrong to zoom down the middle/outside lanes, then cut up folk on the nearside lane, so you can leave the motorway, the police even do this dodgy manoeuvre, but off course they are all perfect drivers, (as if)

    Joe the trucker.

  2. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre

  3. i assume you may have recently passed your test and have little motorway driving experience as learner drivers are not allowed on motorways,,,

so check which junction you wish to leave the motorway and before you get there(in UK)move to the left hand(slow) lane indicate your intention to leave the motorway at the next exit ,at the 300 metre marker, this gives all traffic behind you adequate notice of your intentions,,

and as in all cases before you move or change direction,,its MSM,,,that is Mirror,Signal and Manouvere

  4. Apart from the obvious, signalling etc etc , You should use the slip road to "slow down" or brake, that prevents the traffic left on the motorway having to brake, swerve to avoid a slower moving vehicle.BUT, since motorways were first built, traffic volume has increased out of all proportion and I accept that it is necessary to get into the inside lane and even queue to get off the motorway at times !

  5. Get yourself positioned in the left hand carriageway about a mile from your turn off when the 3 bar (300Metre) marker comes check in your mirrors and then indicate.  Pull into the slip road before braking, but be careful because some slip roads are short and rather dangerous and confusing sometimes.

  6. i would just close my eyes and drive like a mad woman at a 100 miles !!!

  7. slow down

  8. I would say you need to be in the inside lane about 1/2 a mile before the slip road and indicate left about 200 yards or so before you turn into it.

  9. Mirror, signal manouevre.

    Cassie got there first!

  10. If you have to ask! i hope you are not a driver

  11. if you know the exit you wish to take start slowing down on the first exit marker check the traffic behind you and start to indicate on the second marker so they know that you are about to turn off.

i hope you find this of use

  12. To Carol A. I hope to God I never come across you on a motorway.

To slow down on a motorway and not give other motorists an indication of WHY your slowing is one of the main causes of, at best frustration and at worst an accident.

I am nearly lost for words here.

The first rule is you have to be aware of whats going on around you. If you just slow down you're going to, at some stage, have an artic on the rear passenger seats.

As some have said it's mirror then signal then manoeuvre. manoeuvre in this case means slowing down.

As a rule of thumb you will have notice of your junction by road signs. If you are in lane 2 give yourself time and space to exit by indicating and filtering into the slower traffic in lane one. In heavy traffic give as much warning to the traffic behind as possible by indicating at the 300 yrd marker. Never take it for granted that the traffic behind has seen you indicate and keep your driving smooth and fluid.

  13. I'll just sit quietly on Archie's back seat.
