Pronounce it "Soh-àh-veh" , stress on à where I've marked the accent.

Pronounciation offered by other answerers is wrong but the series of different suggestions made by the "Italian caterer" are, if possible, even worse. Forget it and don't order as he posted since nobody could know what the waiter would bring to you...!!

Italians quickly pronounce it like this, so av ay. Contrary to the swa vay I saw, we make it more sing songy. Like we pronounce gnochi, n yo chi. Or another mis pronounced word I see is risotto. Its riz au to. fro maggio, rice is re so. Next time you are in a swanky resteraunt, and they ask you what you want, tell them, bouff techa, pa ta te, in sal atta, pas teen a, e pom a dor o. For dessert? Tiera, missu, or Torta di choco latto. They will think you are a genius.!
