What is the correct suit jacket sleeve length?

I just bought a new suit, but am wondering what is considered the correct jacket sleeve length? Is it supposed to be longer than the shirt sleeve? Or just below the wrist? thanks!

  1. It should break just at the wrist to allow a little bit of cuff to show (especially if you have cuff links)


  2. If you are asking etiquette it depends on the function work, evening, tuck suit to what the arm length is.

I've read a few different articles on this subject.  Some say that it should be just below the wrist.  However, in the 50s, the classic look was to show off about half an inch of cuff.  If you have french-cuffed shirts, you might need this just a little higher.  The best thing to do is wear the shirt you want to wear with the jacket and let your tailor know that you're after a classic look.  The important thing is taste and balance.  What looks good on some does not necessarily look good on others.
