What is the correct translation to Gaelic?

I want to have an anklet tattoo that says my favourite Shakespeare line in Gaelic thus combining my loves...

To Thine Ownself Be True

anyone know what it would be? I'm looking for Irish gaelic

  1. i don't know it for sure, but google an online translator and that should help. you may not be able to get a literal translation, but you can get the closest thing.


  2. You cant translate "thine" or "own self" into Irish.

    The nearest thing you can say is "Be true to yourself"

    Be true to your self = Bí fíor duit féin

    "fíor" means true however its true as in the opposite of false or how a fact can be true.

    A better word to use would be "dílis" which means loyal.

    Be loyal to yourself = Bí dílis duit féin

    You could use the emphatic "duitse" too, which would be the nearest thing to "own self"

    "Bí dílis duitse féin"
