What is the correct way to approach this teacher?

Question

I want to ask him for permission to be in his Speech and Debate class. He teaches at my school, and is currently teaching speech at the summer school I am attending. Shoul I go up to him and say "Mr. Pippen, I wanted to know if I can be in your speech and debate class next year?" or "Mr. are you the one who teaches speech and debate at this high school; (wait for an answer); may I be in your class next year?"

Hi sir I noticed you do speech and debate currently and i am wondering if i may have permission to attend your class
