Question:

What is the correct way to ask the question 'what are the objectives of this task?' using 'should'?

It's the position of the verb 'to be' that is the problem:

1) What should the objectives of this task be?

2) What should be the objectives of this task?

Are both gramatically correct or not? I would never use the second one, but I have been told that it's correct. Any help welcome!

  1. you should use the second one....

  2. The second one sounds more formal, as opposed to the first one, that suggests that you are asking yourself the question.

I tend to keep my writing more formal for assignments, so I would go with the second one.

That's a tough one though, because they both sound correct!

I think just go with which ever one you are more comfortable with.

Hope this helps a little bit :)
