Make   sure  you   have   good  LARGE STURDY   fenders   and   extra long  boat  hooks........  pike   poles  are   the   best.....long  lines  if  needed.........   going  down   is  harder   than  going   up......keep  your  cool.....  there  are  usually  people  around   to   help..........   a cruising   guide  to the  NY State  Barge   Canal     gives  many   helpful   hints

  4. i do not completly understand your question. but rember this:  red right returning.  meaning, when returning to harbour keep the red bouey/marker on your right. that is the basic answer but if you were to sail through the panama canal at what point would you not be returning to harbour and actually be heading out to sea which would require the green markers to be on your right?
